The teachers and staff at Stanborough are unique in their dedication to the holistic development of their pupils. All staff at the school hold university degrees or equivalent professional qualifications. With a teacher/student ratio of 1:8, the Stanborough experience allows teachers to give close, individual attention to each student. Teachers are perceptive to the talents and interests of their students and seek ways to help them grow to their full potential.
Reflecting the international composition of the student body, the staff team at Stanborough is similarly international. A considerable amount of both day and boarding school staff are at least bi-lingual and have considerable international work experience.

I am passionate about working with young people, both in and out of school and relish my role as Assistant Head Teacher at Stanborough Secondary School. As a teacher of English Language, English Literature and Business, I am committed to developing practical life skills in my pupils.
After training and working in HR for a number of years, I felt called to be a teacher and trained at an Adventist University, where I excelled and graduated summa cum laude. I have worked for both state and private Schools and have taught GCSE’s, A levels and IB.
After attaining my Bachelor of Arts Degree in English (Teaching), I completed my PGCE and attained my QTS. I then did a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. I am a member (MCCT) of the National College of Teaching.
In my free time (when I am not marking English essays), I keep fit (running and skipping), cook, travel, read, play chess, socialise and present workshops on various topics. I enjoy spending time with my family. I am a Deputy Director with my local Pathfinder Club and teach Sabbath school.
I believe in pursuing excellence and claim the Bible verse that states, ‘Whatsoever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.’ I believe in living life to the full and bring a lot of energy and positivity into everything that I do. I inspire my pupils and colleagues to do the same. I am motivated by my love for God and people and my call to servanthood – serving the Master in his vineyard.

As a teacher, one of the best feelings in the world is when a child has a light bulb moment! That moment when their faces light up in joy at understanding a complex or evasive topic.
No other job gives you the same satisfaction. I left teaching several years ago to try another career, but it took me some time to realise that no matter how hard I worked or how eager I was to prove myself something was missing; those light bulb moments. Other things were missed too; the thank you cards (emails – because of lockdown), a 5% increase in grades time after time for tests, students making a 180 degree turn towards their attitude to learning. Now that I am back, I feel whole, complete and energised to stay up to 1:30 am preparing lessons to ensure my students understand a subject that not many of them will use in later life, but yet, somehow, they find joy doing.

I was delighted to have been offered a place to work at Stanborough Secondary School. I had worked as an Assistance Teacher at Stanborough Primary School when my children were studying there. My first impression on my return to Stanborough, was like the continuation that I should have always had. It felt like joining the amazing Stanborough family again after so many years. I thoroughly enjoy working for our School.
During the time away from the school environment, I went on to pursue a new career in Nursing. I worked for the NHS and the private sector for many years but had never forgotten the lovely time while working at Stanborough. Now days, I am never away from the classroom. My work is varied, and I love it. I am the registrar, work as an invigilator for the GCSE exams, I teach EFL to International students and I have the opportunity to offer my experience and Nursing skills for the safety and well-being of our students.

I am a South Korean pianist, and have started playing the piano at an early age. I won several competitions and awards in Korea before moving to the UK immediately after my graduation from the Adventist University in Seoul where I studied music education. My studies carried on at the Royal College of Music in London with Professor Ruth Nye completing BMus in Performance, PG Diploma in Advanced Performance and awarded Master of Music in Performance.
I am an active performer and teacher and have given many recitals as a soloist and as a chamber musician in venues such as the Royal College of Music, St. Mary Abbott’s Church in Kensington, St. Martin’s-in-the-Field in London and Wigmore Hall and so on.
I have been the Music Director of the Stanborough Park College of Music since 2011 and am also a member of the J Ahn Piano Trio, which was formed with my two sisters.

J. H. Ahn
J. H. Ahn, Cellist, was born in South Korea and started playing the piano at the age of 4. However, when she began her secondary school in Korea at the age of 12 she was introduced to the cello which led her to come to England a few years later to study music in depth. She began studying with Douglas Cumming and obtained her first degree in music performance at the Trinity College of Music in London where she also obtained her Postgraduate Diploma in Performance followed by Masters in Performance at the Royal College of Music. She has studied with Douglas Cumming, David Kennedy and Helen Dautry. Ji Hee is now freelancing as a soloist and teacher as well as being a very active member of her piano trio and a string quartet.

S. Mallia
I am a Maltese saxophonist and an early-career researcher in music education. Throughout my performative career, I have had the opportunity to perform in various venues across Europe, namely the Manoel Theatre, Marlborough House and Centro Botín. My performative career has not been limited to classical performance repertoire but has also extended into broader interdisciplinary and intercultural ventures. Alongside performance, I have developed a profound interest in the academic study of music education, particularly in issues of accessibility and representation surrounding educational policy and practice. I am currently a doctoral student at the Royal College of Music reading for a PhD in Music Education. Through my professional practice as an instrumental teacher, I strive to provide students with individually meaningful paths for the development of musical expertise, inter- and intra-personal skills, within an environment of mutual respect and compassion.

A. Golebiowski
I graduated in music from King’s College London, specialising in composition and performance, while undertaking instrumental lessons at the Royal Academy of Music, and previously at Junior Trinity College of Music. I was also a member of the National Youth Guitar Ensemble.
I have since enjoyed a varied career as a teacher and performer, both as a soloist and chamber musician, developing a passion for ensemble and group work which inspires my teaching. I have over 10 years of teaching experience working with children and adults from beginner to Grade 8+ standard on an individual and group basis. I tailor lessons taking into account students’ individual needs, endeavouring to create an enjoyable and inclusive learning experience that covers a range of guitar skills and genres of music while ensuring progress each week. I also play the violin, and collaborate closely with my folk-pop band. Myband released an album in 2017 and have toured the UK having recently played at major festivals including Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

O. Kolarova
I have been working at Stanborough Secondary school since 2016 as part of the Support staff team making sure our School is clean at all times. I have been attending the Adventist church regularly for about 8 years and that was the main reason for my decision to apply for the job in this school. I take pride in being a staff member at the school. Its excellent reputation and the Christian environment provide a friendly and calm atmosphere during my work.

L. Mahbena
I was born on a summer day, in the southern part of Romania into a young family eager to welcome me. I grew up in a large family and I enjoyed a lot of freedom playing with my brother and sister as well as with friends.
I grew up during communism and for a long time I did not feel restricted or limited in any way. Later on, as years went by and especially after the fall of communism, I realised all the limitations and challenges that came with it.
My parents always pushed me to do well in school; I was competitive, and I always tried my best. I also had the opportunity to learn how to play the piano and I enjoyed it. I attended one of the best high schools in my hometown and I had regular exercise daily as the school was one hour away from my home; that meant 2 hours walking everyday, winter or summer.
After finishing high school, I went to the capital to study Biochemistry where I successfully managed to obtain one of the few state funded seats. I graduated at the age of 22. I went into teaching Chemistry and Biology in a secondary school, for a couple of years and as there was high demand for English teachers, I went to study for a second degree: English and Spanish. Another 4 years spent in beautiful Transylvania allowed me to develop proficiency in both English and Spanish. Since languages are something, I have always enjoyed and mastered with ease, I went on to polish up my German in Austria for 2 years, in Bogenhofen. From Austria, the perfectionist in me needed to continue perfecting English and push my expertise to the next level. I landed in Stanborough Secondary School as a volunteer for a year, working in the Marketing Department. Being quite shy and too self-conscious of my imperfections in English, I was not very confident. Nevertheless, the experience was pleasant in many ways.
In order to take my English skills up a level, I applied and was admitted to a few universities in London and I went for a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, which I successfully finished one year later.
In 2006, I started teaching Spanish at Stanborough Primary School. One year later I started teaching EFL at the secondary school. Teaching in Romania had been fun for both myself and my students. I assumed teaching would be as enjoyable for me in UK as it was in Romania. I couldn’t be more wrong! I struggled for years to adapt and connect with students. I am grateful I did not give up as teaching is what I love doing and I believe I do it well. I have, after a long time, managed to acclimatise and connect with students. I enjoy teaching and I love my students. They are the best thing about being a teacher.
As I look back, I am grateful to God for all the experiences that have moulded and made me into who I am today. One Bible verse in particular has been my motto: ‘I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me’, Phil. 4:13

I head the Art department, co-ordinate the year 10 Work Experience, head the Faculty of Life-Skills where I work with Keyboarding, Work Experience, Food Technology, Horticulture and Business teachers to ensure our pupils receive the best experience. In the Life Skills Faculty, we work hard to ensure that we cater for the needs of all abilities and that we fully challenge the most able students and encourage those of average abilities and below towards attaining higher levels of achievement.
I come from a long family of Adventists; my aunt Ethel Maud Douglas (nee Sinclair) planted a new SDA church congregation in Jamaica 1936 when Jamaica had the largest SDA conference in the world.
