Instructions:

Good afternoon,

Your test will be about:

Binary coding systems

I will only ask you to convert numbers to gain characters from the ASCII coding system, the rest will be theoretical only.

You need to know how to do binary conversions using the sum of weight method as well as the repeated division method

The basics of encryption

You need to know all encryption methods discussed during class: Caesar’s cipher wheel, Morse code, number replacements and mobile phone cipher.

You also need to know the history of encryption. This was not discussed in class, but shall be self-study.

You need to know how to use spreadsheet for the purpose of encryption and decryption.

Study page 2 until page 9 and page 16  until page 19 (not Functions for modulo 2)

Start studying on time.

International students will obtain differentiated work to study.

Regards,

Good morning,

Please disregard the email I send previously concerning VLookup. Since I was encountering difficulties we will focus on spreadsheet conversion only for this week. It should give you enough time to complete all outstanding work. This means that your test will not be next week, but the week after. That also means that I am giving you an additional week to make sure your exercise books are in good condition. All the classwork and homework needs to be completed. All the work needs to be in your exercise books, regardless if it was done on the computer or not.

See me lunch time second half if you have difficulties with the conversions.

Homework:

Create a spreadsheet that will automatically convert decimal numbers into their binary equivalent and into the corresponding ASCII letter. For example, if you type in the number 71. It will show you the binary code 1000111 and the letter G. Set the spreadsheet up so that it can be used to read and write short messages.

The short message I want you to write is “ Computing Homework: Using spreadsheets to encrypt and decrypt data ”                 (This has to be in decimal, binary and finally binary)

Extend your spreadsheet so that it can also be used to convert:

Binary codes into decimal numbers and ASCII letters and ASCII letters into binary codes and decimal numbers

Make sure you convert at least 10 numbers

Regards,

Miss Brewster

Revise these key terms and remember a noun is a word used to identify any of a class of people, places, or things.
An adjective is a word describing a noun, for example a ‘Rose’ is red, or beautiful.

These are the 7 terms you must define accurately, note if you define the term Alien as a foreigner this will be a wrong answer.
Use my examples. Remember these key terms are specific to Religious Education and must be defined in the context of religion.

God – (noun) the one perfect, eternal, supernatural supreme being
Alien – (noun) heavenly being, supernatural being
Supreme – (adjective) highest
Being – (noun) life form
