Homework Assigments

Evaluate each sketchbook page so that your sketchbook reads fluently like a book. As we turn the pages the story of your development should unfold visually and contextually page by page.
Each page should contain the following:
• short paragraph explaining each step of your work.
• thoughtful summary.
• Explain what your next step might be.

Look up the words in ex 4/65 and answer the questions.
Revise the verb to be in the present tense. Here is a link to help you with that.
On Tuesday I am taking your books, so please make sure you have all the previous HW (4/59; 1a and 1b/58 – those who were in the US).

Learn the vocabulary on page 64 for the test.

Do ex. 6/83.

The question are listed below.
The Plagues-Exodus 7-11

1. Why do you think the Israelites were slaves (430 years) for such a long time?

2. In what ways does God show He is fair in the giving of the plagues?

3. In Genesis 7:1 it says Moses is like God to Pharaoh. Why do you think it says this?

4. How did the Egyptian magicians make ‘miracles’? (Illusion? Demonic power? Or with God’s permission?) Exodus 8:18

5. Do you think Moses and Aaron were surprised by the magician’s tricks?

6. During the II World War there was a saying that there are no atheists in the foxholes. (Explain the saying). Do you tend to pray when things are going your way, or do you pray more when you’re in a ‘foxhole’ – a tight spot of trouble?

7. How important was the River Nile to the Egyptians? What kind of pressure do you think this plague puts on Pharaoh or his sorcerers? What was his response?

8. How do you think Moses and Aaron felt after the plague of blood?

9. Have you ever thought that God created a ‘stink’ in your life to get your attention? (Exodus 8:14).

10. In Exodus. 12:12 says ‘I will bring judgement on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord.’ In what ways did the plagues do this?

11. In Exodus 4: 21 “And the Lord said to Moses When you go to return into Egypt, see that you do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in your hand: but I will harden his heart, and he shall not let the people go.”
Again and again in Chapters 7 – 11 the Bible says that God hardened Pharaoh’s heart and at other times, Pharaoh hardened his heart? What does this mean why would God choose to harden Pharaohs heart?

12. When have you hardened your heart in light of God’s working?

13. From your tally, how many times does Pharaoh change his mind and say ‘No’ after saying ‘Yes’? Why do you think Pharaoh keeps changing his mind about ‘how far’ he’ll let them go?

14. What are some of the things that have been experienced by the Israelites that are now experienced by the Egyptians?

15. What does the fact that the land of Goshen was not affected by the plagues say about what God is like?

16. What is God trying to teach Pharaoh by this? What is He trying to teach the Israelites?

17. Do you think God is singling out the Israelites for special favours because they’re ‘chosen’? Why do you think so?

18. Could God have achieved his goal of releasing the Israelites without the plagues? If so, how, if not, why?

19. In Exodus 9:14 it says, “For at this time, I will send all my plagues to your very heart and on your servants and on your people that you may know that there is none like Me in all the earth.” What do you think this text is talking about?

20. Why do you think God removes the plague each time Pharaoh promises to let the Israelites go, even though he changes his mind each time? What does this say about God?

21. Where do you think Pharaoh feels the most pressure? From God? Moses? His officials? The plagues themselves? His guilty conscience? Why?

22. Have you ever had a Moses (someone who forced you to see the need for God in your life) in your life? How did you react to this person – then and how so do your react to them now?
